Markets (Mercados) in and around the Orihuela Costa.
Like most of Spain and the Costa Blanca, the Orihuela Costa and it's neighbouring areas have masses & masses daily or weekly markets, where the sights, sounds, smells and colours of the Costa Blanca are on display to all and sundry.
On the Orihuela Costa, the best known is most probably Playa Flamenca market, every Saturday from about 8.00 a.m. - 2.00 p.m., offering everything that you could possibly dream of, from mouth watering, farm fresh fruits and vegetables to breads & dreamy, creamy, fattening cakes, pastries (hot sweet & savoury), flowers, clothing, toys, household goods, leather goods, prints and paintings, jewelery, music, locally farmed cheeses, locally produces jamons and the list could go on.
If you like a rummage around, then the markets in and around the Orihuela Costa are a great starting point, from fruit & veg markets to flea markets to boot sales.
The thrill of the barterring is what attracts many people to the markets, having a bit of banter with the stall holder, trying to get the price down to what suits your needs and most importantly for many, getting your own way.
At the end odf the day, happy shoppers go home with their hard earned bargaing and the stallholders still get those all important sales.
There is a maket on SOMEWHERE in the area every day, so if you have overslept and missed your local favourite, or, if your favourite isn' t local, then you are spoilt for choice.
We have listed below a very small selection of the best known markets in the area, but the local press produce full lists weekly, so if you are adventurous, then you can try out your bartering skills at a market where you have not tried yet.
Happy Bartering !!!
NOTE:- As with any major crowd puller, markets attract opportunist thiefs and pick pockets. Excecise your common sense and awareness. Keep bags, wallets etc safe and well hidden and your market visit will be an enjoyable experience.
