Gay & Lesbian Orihuela Costa.

Information for Gay & Lesbian Visitors and residents.

Considering Spain is such a religous  and mainly Catholic country,as a nation, the Spanish are very open minded and accepting of individulas as a whole.
Spain was one of the first European Countries to legalise same sex marriages and to include alternative lifestyles in it's education curriculum.
In the larger cities like Madrid, Barcelona & Valencia, there are thriving gay & lesbian communities,  gay & lesbian and gay friendly bars, restaurants, accomodation and entertainment to suit all tastes and ages.

But what about the Orihuela Costa and neighbouring areas ?

Many places along the Orihuela Costa are gay & lesbian friendly and do not tend to categorise people by what their lifestyle is, but, for those who wish to drink or dance in a place filled with like minded individuals, then there are a smattering of bars and discos in nearby Torrevieja &  La Mata.

If you have a venue that you would like included in this section, please contact us with your details and we will be happy to include it ( at editors discretion and subject to validation).

Further Afield.
Although there is not a massive amount of dedicated gay & lesbian venues on the Orihuela Costa or nearby areas, there are vibrant and massive scenes in Elche, Alicante & Benidorm in the North (Costa Blanca) and Murcia in the South (Costa Calida).
There is a scene to suit all tastes, musical preferences, day or night, from cafes to bars, hotels, health spas and more, along with some outdoor activities..

 Gay & Lesbian Elche.

Elche is a stunningly beautiful City set in the heart of roughly 300.000 Plam trees and about 1000 show making facitities. It is referred to as the leather capital of Europe.
For the gay & lesbian community from the Orihuela Costa, Elche is a major provider of all that is entertainment.

For such a small City, Elche boasts over a dozen gay & gay friendly bars,  a few nightclubs (with a polysexual feel), around 8 specialist restaurants, saunas & health spas and a heap of shopping aimed at the gay & lesbian community.

Gay & Lesbian Alicante.

Alicante is a thriving metropolis with a
heaving gay  & lesbian scene.

As the second City of the Communidad Valencia, Alicante is big business for the gay & lesbian community, with a massive range of bars, clubs, saunas and hostals to suit all ages and tastes..
Age doesn't appear to be an issue in Alicante, as it does in other 'trendier' Cities...as men and women of all ages mingle  happily in the cafes, bars and gay and gay friendly restaurants.

Gay & Lesbian Benidorm.

Benidorm is a mecca for gay men, lesbians and a gay friendly, happy go lucky atmosphere.
With the historic and picturesque 'old town' as a backdrop for the heaving gay scene / village, Benidorm packs gay & lesbian visitors from all over Europe and indeed, the world.
A headonistic mix of nightclubs, bars cafes, late, late nights and early mornings, and dedicated gay & lesbian accommodation Benidorm has a scene to rival any major city..Check out Rich Bitch ( if you don't talk through the show, because you'll get chucked out), or one of the house - pumpin clubs for some dance action.

If you prefer gentler pastimes, have a try at Play Your Cards right Bar..Great fun, if you guess the nexty card correctly you get free drinks, but not as many as the tanked up-dragged up, fabulous host(ess).
Look out for the Happy Hours in the Old Town bars and keep some money for later in the night. Shop 'til you drop in the days, but get a siesta, because the night time is when Benidorm truly comes alive.

Gay & Lesbian Murcia.

Crossing both sides of the Rio Segura, Murcia has retained it's historic Spanish charm.

Capital City of the Communidad Murcia, Murcia City is a very popular destination with the Gay & Lesbian population of Spain and Europe.
Although Murcia still has the feel of an old Spanish City, the outlook  and attitude from it's residents is modern & vibrant, including a Gay Pride Festival ( usually in the last week of June - 24th - 28th in 2009).

Murcia has a smattering of the usual bars, cafes and spas to keep the gay & lesbian community & visitors happy.
